Two men injured when lightning strikes dump truck near them

Two men were injured this afternoon after the dump truck they were standing near was struck by lighting. The men, whose names were not immediately clear, were standing next to a dump truck at Jone’s Mining Co., 16000 Immokalee Road, when the truck was struck by lightning. "They received not a direct hit, but they did receive some injuries from the dump truck being hit," Collier County Emergency Medical Services spokeswoman Cherie Wilson-Watson said.

Former Lee County manager Stilwell applies for Brevard County job

Fire safety report finds 26 serious safety issues in Lee County School District

A safety report due to the State Fire Marshall's Office this month turned up 26 "serious life safety items" in the Lee County School District. The report, completed annually by all school districts, includes examination of 92 sites, including schools, in the district. Among the life safety items identified, 14 have been corrected, according to the school district, and the rest are being examined.
