Abilene downtown study: Three areas need facelift
City consultants released a report Monday that calls for a major overhaul of parts of downtown in need of a facelift and proposed helping fund the improvements by setting up a new Downtown Tax Increment Financing District.
The proposed South Downtown Abilene project includes an area that spans south of the railroad tracks to South 7th Street and between Butternut Street and Treadaway Boulevard. It also runs north of the tracks to North 6th Street and between Walnut Street and Treadaway Boulevard.
Consultants with HyettPalma divided the proposed area for improvements into three sections: the Warehouse District, South Downtown Abilene (SoDA) District and Treadaway District.
